‎ This research delves into the efficacy of semantic mapping as a pedagogical ‎intervention designed to bolster the research skills of fourth-year English as a ‎Foreign Language (EFL) students specializing in the demanding field of ‎simultaneous interpretation. The study acknowledges the paramount ‎importance of robust research competence for aspiring interpreters, a skill that ‎directly impacts their ability to accurately and efficiently convey information ‎across linguistic, and cultural barriers. It highlights a persistent gap between ‎the theoretical foundations acquired in academic settings and the practical, ‎real-world research demands encountered in professional interpreting practice.‎
‎ To bridge this gap, the study employs a quasi-experimental pretest/posttest ‎control group design, preceded by a pilot case study to refine the methodology ‎and ensure its validity. The study was conducted over a four-month period, ‎involving weekly instructional sessions designed to integrate semantic mapping ‎techniques into the students' learning process. This longitudinal approach ‎allows for a thorough assessment of the long-term effects of the intervention. ‎The findings of this research aim to contribute to the expanding body of ‎literature on innovative pedagogical strategies within interpreter education, ‎particularly in EFL contexts. It seeks to provide empirical evidence supporting ‎the potential of cognitive mapping techniques, such as semantic mapping, to ‎improve research proficiency among EFL learners. By demonstrating the ‎effectiveness of this method, the study hopes to offer valuable insights for ‎educators, and curriculum developers in the field of interpreter training, ‎ultimately leading to more competent and well-prepared professional ‎interpreters.‎
